This Christmas season, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is using a variety of online resources in a stunning way to share the joyful message surrounding the birth of Christ.
There is the wonderful social media campaign #ShareTheGift or #TheGiftPassing started. Through all kinds of memes and especially through a special one Christmas website, it is passed on what the meaning of Christmas is in these days. This is mainly supported by a nice YouTube video:
Also up Instagram The campaign runs by asking members to come up with a way to pass on the Gift and write it down on a piece of paper and then share it via a selfie as a goal for yourself and others.
Well-known artists have also jumped on the bandwagon. For example, The Piano Guys recorded a Christmas song together with David Archuleta, Peter Hollens and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The video involves more than 1,000 people to form the largest live nativity ever. Also The Latest News had a post about this video – albeit without mentioning that it was a Mormon initiative.
You can download the song for free via Facebook.
Also striking at the end is the explanation why this video was recorded and again a link to the #ShareTheGift campaign.
And when well-known Mormon singers and musicians join forces, Alex Boyle cannot be left behind. He scores with a beautiful song and video about the fact that a wise man is still searching for Christ in these modern times. Here too, at the end there is a reference to the #ShareTheGift campaign.
We also have this on Facebook the low countries not standing still. We currently have a campaign where you can request a free DVD about Christmas. This campaign runs until Christmas, so if you would like to perform a beautiful Christmas story on Christmas Eve, now is the chance to request this DVD.
So Mormons are clearly not unworldly. We embrace modern technology and use it for good. The Internet is often poorly exposed because it spreads so much evil, but it can also be used for good. And that is the challenge of this campaign: you can flood the internet with positive messages. Are you participating?
