David Geens: Father, Husband, Geeky Entrepreneur, and Mormon in Flanders

About David Geens

O
David Geens, Mormon, entrepreneur, and blogger

A little about myself: I’m David Geens, born in 1974, married to Isabel, and the father of two boys. I’m Flemish, live in Maldegem, and write on this blog about the things that interest me: faith, entrepreneurship, books, and everything that creates friction at the intersection of science and religion.

What I Do for a Living

Professionally, I’m a serial entrepreneur. In 2000, I founded the hosting company Nucleus, which I sold 18 years later to Combell (now team.blue). Today, I am the managing director of DMVH, an IT firm that provides custom software development, and CEO of Proudly, an Antwerp-based AI startup in HR tech. I am also active as a venture capitalist.

My Faith

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints —better known as a Mormon. For several years now, I have had the privilege of serving as a bishop in the Sint-Niklaas ward on a volunteer basis. Much of what I write on GeensZins stems from that faith perspective: about doubt, about how science and religion don’t have to be at odds with each other, and about what it means to be a Mormon in Flanders.

What I'm still doing

In my personal life, I'm mostly a bookworm. I also create podcasts, including De Kast van Mormon about faith in Flanders, and I occasionally write articles for other websites. Previous interviews with me have appeared in Custodes and Bloovi, among others.

Why GeensZins?

From Van Dale:

by no means [adverb] — not at all.
“I don’t mean to deny that you’re right.”

A nod to my last name, and a promise: I write out of conviction, but never as if I have a monopoly on the truth. I try to search honestly, sometimes out loud, sometimes clumsily. With GeensZins, my goal is to share things that interest me, as well as my opinions and experiences, with others. I have absolutely no intention of hurting anyone. Should that happen unintentionally, I apologize in advance. I respect everyone’s opinion and ask for the same respect for mine.
