Our Plan child Casandra

Several times already, when reading about Plan Belgium, I thought about adopting a child too adopt.

I think it's a good idea in itself: you help someone truly personally, you build a bond with them, and at the same time help the local community. Some will call it a drop in the ocean call it, but I still find this moving. casandra is not an anonymous person. She has a name and a face.

Our little family is very happy with it. Laurens and Lucas naturally didn't understand when we talked about their sister started this morning. I thought Laurens was super sweet when, after fifteen minutes, he came to ask if he should build a bed for the new baby.

Casandra is now two years old. Her father is a farmer and her mother is a housewife. She lives in Peru in the region of CCorca, an area in the mountains (3100-4200 meters above sea level). It is 15 kilometers from Cusco and has 2900 inhabitants. Ccorca is an agricultural community where most young people move away to the city. The life expectancy there is only 55 years due to the harsh living conditions.

Currently, there is only primary education, but there is also a private school with secondary education. Who knows, Casandra might go there later.

25% of the people there are malnourished. 90% have no electricity and 36% have no running water in the house. Fortunately, Casandra lives in a sturdy house where there is water.

She has had all necessary vaccinations and has never been seriously ill. Fortunately, because there is not much medical care nearby.

We are going to write a note this weekend. Not too long, because ultimately Casandra doesn't benefit much from it and the local Plan representative has to translate it, but Laurens and Lucas will certainly make a drawing for their sister.
