General conference and Easter: double celebration for Mormons

The first weekend of April is always marked in every Mormon agenda. Then we hold our general conference. Two days with a total of 5 sessions of 2 hours where we can watch and listen to speeches from our prophet, apostles and general authorities.

It is one of the pillars of our church that we are not a  stand still church, but that our prophet and apostles speak to us every six months with messages adapted to the time we live in. For example, it is not a bad thing that we are reminded these days that the internet is a technology that can be used for both good and evil, but that this is our choice. Or to emphasize once again that the family with a father and a mother is the best place to raise children.

At the same time, tomorrow is Easter. Some malicious tongues may claim that Mormons do not observe Easter, but before you believe that, I invite you to take a look at the #BecauseHeLives website. Easter is the moment when Christ brought about the Atonement. There can be no more important moment for us.

We may dwell less on His suffering and death than, for example, Catholics, but all the more on His resurrection. A church that believes that through this, death was overcome for everyone – yes, truly everyone; we claim that everyone, believer or not, will rise from the dead – cannot ignore this moment.

Yes, because this year Easter and the general conference fall on the same weekend, we are not together in a church building, but we spend even more hours on our faith than on another Sunday. But one does not exclude the other, and I am sure that tomorrow during the speeches, quite a lot of attention will be given to the Resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

I want to give you my testimony in advance that I completely believe in the Atonement. Jesus died for us and paid our debt on condition that we follow His commandments. Easter is the commemoration of the fact that we will all resurrect and live forever. I share this in the name of Jesus Christ.
