Mormons are always fanatically engaged in genealogy. We do this because we find it important to know our ancestors and to be able to baptize them by proxy.
Every month I spend a few hours on online searches for branches in our family tree. More and more sources are becoming available online, which means you sometimes make nice discoveries in other family trees. Finding one branch is sometimes enough to add hundreds of names.
This week, I suddenly discovered a connection in Isabel's distant ancestors with the lords de Wissocq, and once you're in the nobility, you at least find names from before 1500. But I had not expected this at all. Suddenly I saw counts, dukes, princesses, and kings appearing, and suddenly I saw Charlemagne, emperor of the Roman Empire, standing there. I checked it on various sources, but the link is indeed correct. There is a direct line, either through fathers or through mothers, but the line is indeed there between my sons andCharlemagne.
So with this, King Filip, get lost. My eldest son has imperial blood. And for my youngest, I want the title Count of Flanders, but his eldest brother will take care of that as emperor.
