Moderately Religious: believing in a secular world

Dare to advertise

D

A few weeks ago I was in London and one evening I went to see the musical “The Book of Mormon”. For whom would like to know more about that: it's a satirical piece from the makers of South Park.

What I found special was that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England had set aside a budget to advertise in the program booklet. Slogans such as “the book is always better” and “you've seen the show, now read the book” adorned beautiful advertisements. I am convinced that there are people who, after a pleasant evening and a few bursts of laughter, still had questions about what we believe in. Good thing they were immediately directed to www.mormon.org. I told Isabel that same evening that if I were a mission president in England, I would have a pair roaming elsewhere every evening at the Prince of Whales Theater.

Apparently the church in England has understood that there are quite a few opportunities to be seized with good advertising. Because today I saw a report that the advertising campaign was expanded even further:

So I think this is wonderful. I am convinced that in this way many people come into contact with our faith for the first time. Some will look for more information themselves, but it will certainly also make the missionaries' work easier.

So I can only hope that we will also receive a budget in Flanders and the Netherlands to do something similar. And in the meantime, I can only recommend that you take a look at www.mormoon.org.
